(A Meditation)
What comes forth
in the blooming of time
is the flower of the essence.
In the fullness of time
the blossoming commences
and as each bloom unfurls,
crescendos and then fades,
another comes to take its place.
As one bloom shrivels and drops,
another is in full rapture
and the one near that is still nascent,
still waiting for its proper time.
So it is with all of life, from the lowest forms to the highest.
So it is throughout the ranks of mankind.
The heart knows whereof it speaks when it tells you to cease and desist from all
judgment. For mercy never obtains from judgment passed–nay, it obtains from the
refraining thereof.
Refrain from judgment and you shall practice mercy–
mercy which stems from the heart of the flower which knows
that it too shall be born and then peak and then fade.
Ephemeral is mercy; it cannot be pinned down;
its essence Divine, its life conjoined to Life, the sap of life,
which feeds each twig and stem of the Tree
also feeds each blossom in its turn.
In the act of blossoming does mercy itself
embody to crown with glory the fragment of life it frames.
Mercy is that which pours forth life in abundance
and never sets its hand to stem the flow;
it is judgment which stems the flow,
cauterizes the wounds it makes and
saps the life away from its source.
Wherever there is judgment
there is, without exception,
reduced flow of vitality:
the juices of life dry up and are made extinct.
The judge on the bench makes a livelihood at this,
but in point of fact this livelihood is not lively!
It is a soul deadening job;
it is a necessary activity under society’s current
state of development, but ultimately,
when the inner rules the outer,
there will be no need of judges
to work upon the outer to rule the inner.
For this is profoundly counter-intuitive:
The inner form rules the outer form —
this is universal spiritual law and it is the law
which must ultimately prevail.
It will prevail when Mercy runs free and unfettered,
flowing through every heart in the land,
flooding through dry and dusty judgment,
uprooting calculating and cerebral thought processes,
carrying them, roots and all, into the great ocean
of Mercy and Love.
Love heals judgment through the divine action of mercy.
Cultivate Love and Mercy will follow to lend her beneficent ear.
