Come Into the Garden

Burn a way to the heart
Tear away all filthy vines of contempt
which surround it
Pull apart the brambles of scorn
so that they prick no longer
Let the heart no more suffer
nor do suffering unto others
Let it sway and blush in the
infinite moment of Love’s taking it.

Burn a way to the heart
Tear away all filthy vines of contempt
which surround it
Pull apart the brambles of scorn
so that they prick no longer
Let the heart no more suffer
nor do suffering unto others
Let it sway and blush in the
infinite moment of Love’s taking it.

Love shall fructify
when all malice falls away to rot
when all machinery ceases
its meaningless grinding,
its senseless yearning for more
is abated at last.
Then one can hear the rhythm
of the heartbeat once again;
the pounding of life’s pace and purpose
loom large once again

And fold, fold the blanket of your faults,
put aside the sheltering edifice–

Come on out in the rain and dance
a little dance for me!

Come and dance in the countless
dances of time and place your feet
firmly on my sacred ground
.
Dervish and dive, dear one,
do not hide in a cave
of doubts and daydreams.

Come out here in the open where I can see you!
You are most precious to me, dancing one!

Light the fire of your heart next to mine
and dance with me in the soul’s firelight.

You are my fair one, you are my love.
I exalt you in the heavens;
I exalt you in the earth!

No mire shall trouble my spirit;
no earthly woes unseat my peace.
My peace I give to you
as on a platter dear.
Take this peace and place it
in the center of your heart,
in the center of your head,
in the center of your mouth–
let it melt and soothe its way
to calm your belly,
soothe your sore soul,
calm the tempests within and without.

It is peace unutterable which I offer you;
peace unattainable by ordinary means.
It is my peace which I give to you daily
and so you shall know no fear.
Fear and bravery opposites be,
and all fear and bravery belong to me.
I will make you brave beyond belief,
adn I will send fear into the deepest chasm,
never to be heard from again.

Follow me, my sheep
Follow me, my lambs
Follow on til the end of the day draws near
and lay you down in the midst of my peace–
to dream, to weep, to be with me–
and simply BE WITH ME.

AMEN
