Good Friday Meditation

The garden at the Mount of Olives is closed now~
the gates to verdant pastures and soothing brooks
sealed up and silent as a tomb.

Our Savior, our Lord Christ
heaves now under a heavy cross,
staggering up a hill,
coming to Calvary.

There shall be no time wasted
as He is stripped and seized
and thrown onto the crossbeam frame.

It is a terrible thing to witness,
and now to even ponder,
His a’fixing to the cross.

Heaved up by strong-backed men,
the man on the cross now stands
‘neath a beating sun and a heartless sky.

Those who love Him are there,
and there they stand to the end,
echoing His promise
to be there for them unto the ends of the earth.
They stand now for Him
unto His end here.

And the sky darkens,
and rain and thunder
frown upon the land.

And our Christ, the Lamb,
gives up His Ghost.

And we all take a deep breath
and hold it, and suspend
ourselves in death with Him.

Yet knowing that all Life flows
forth from here,
from this singularity
upon a dry and dusty hilltop,
a hummock known as Calvary.
