Pilgrim, Who Calls You?

This profound poem, writ large, is inscribed in huge calligraphic perfection on a long wall on the outskirts of Najera, Spain on the Camino de Santiago. It is a beautiful poem written for pilgrims in Spanish. I don’t know Spanish very well, but photographed it, and for the next couple of weeks I enlisted other pilgrims to help me translate it over a glass or two of vino tinto at various cafe tables at days’ end. I owe them much gratitude in helping me shape this verse into English. This poem, which I find so inspiring, has become the basis upon which I have named my upcoming book on pilgrimage, Pilgrim, Who Calls You? which I hope to publish in its entirety someday. In the meantime, I will publish excerpts from the book here and I welcome your feedback, dear reader.
