For more on the occult in the late Imperial and early Soviet era in Russia, I found “The Occult in Modern Russian and Soviet Culture,” by Bernice Glatzer Rosenthal. This 31-page paper can be found online at https://www.ucis.pitt.edu/nceeer/1993-806-03-Rosenthal.pdf. Rosenthal is a professor emeritus of history at Fordham University who also wrote the following books (among others): “The Occult in Russian and Soviet Culture,” and “A Revolution of the Spirit: Crisis of Value in Russia, 1890-1924.”
